Supposed to go on a date today but he hasn't called?

I met a guy on a night out with friends. We got chatting in the smoking area and unlike most boys he said nothing ual and simply asked for my number. Also unlike most boys he actually called! Asking me if I'd got home alright and he continued to text me throughout the day (all initiated by him). He asked what I was doing Saturday so I said I was off out with friends for a girlie day of pampering (I would never ditch my girlies for a boy) and was hoping to be free during the week. However my girlies have decided to re-schedule the day as one is ill and I subtly hinted I was now free today. He immediately said shall we go for dinner then! I agreed but we didn't make anything final as he was looking after his grandmother and knew he would be getting a very late night and didn't know when he'd be up! He told me to text him when I'd woken up and then when he'd woken up he would text to arrange the date more specifically! I did just that and guess what? He hasn't replied!!! I left it for about 7 hours and then called just to check he hadn't died lol. No answer! I'm obviously confused as to why he never text. I am not one of these silly girls who run after boys so I have deleted his number and even if he did call me back I doubt I would go. Why do boys ask girls on a date when they'd don't wanna go? Even if he couldn't make it he could have called to say this he can't be THAT busy lol.
