We had to leave our apartment for repairs, are we required to pay rent??

The apartment above ours flooded, and subsequently flooded our apartment as well. We had been out of our apartment for 2 weeks now, waiting for the repairs to be complete, and rent is due. When I talked to the director of this apartment building about a rent discount since we haven't been in the apartment, she said that they normally dont do that since they are covering the cost of the repairs. Can we be required to pay rent for the time that we had to be out of our home?? We did nothing to cause the damage, and it was my husband and myself who brought the flooding to maintenance's attention. Thanks for your answers in advance! =)
