Why do people like to talk about the advantages of being "non-partisan"?

Many people do not think in black and white terms. They can see both sides of a question and can be happy with a compromise. Some people can only think in black and white terms and it is either yes or no to them. Different strokes for different folks. Neither is right or wrong, just different ways at looking at a problem.
