Playing external hdd media player on tv?

I've "no disc" message when connecting my external HDD enclosure to tv using AV ports. I can access the drive in my computer through usb ports and I have stored wma audio files and movie files on it. I'm using 300 Gb Seagate drive (st3300622A), and is connected as master.
