The Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots won their championships with defense, why can't the Red Sox?

Pitching wins short series, which the Sox have. Defense plays a large factor in good pitching, since errors and limited range have a tendency to make pitch counts rise quite a bit. I like what they have right now, and I'm interested to see how well they perform. I don't see them outslugging the Yankees, but they'll be able to hit with most teams. If their pitching staff stays healthy, they should be fine. They can always add a bat at the trade deadline in July, depending on what their needs look like at the time.
